Our Vision: We will Glorify God by sharing His love with everyone.
Our Mission: We will help people develop a loving relationship with Jesus Christ and with each other.

YBA Churches Cooperating in Children's Ministry in Rock Hill, S.C.

Excited to learn about Christ
Midtown Ministries is now exclusively for the kids.

Having been forced to move several times over ths past six months, Midtown Ministries began March 2011 by narrowing its focus to children and youth from the 1st through 12th grades. Midtown ministries is a cooperative effort of the churches in the York Baptist Association in Rock Hill, S.C.

Begun by the Catawba Baptist Church, it has ministered to the children of Midtown Apartments for nearly 13 years. In the fall of 2010, the ministry was forced to move and the Kids for Jesus bus ministry began to transport children to the meeting place. The ministry grew rapidly and needed a larger facility when the Eastside Baptist church offered the use of their gymnasium, classrooms and kitchen.

As the churches in the York Association recognized that these children had many needs, several other
churches and independent volunteers joined the effort, teaching the Bible, leading music, cooking meals, monitoring playtime, keeping order on the buses and, more importantly, demonstrating the love of Christ.

“Feed My Sheep”
by Carol Scarborough

Do you ever feel God’s tug on your heart to be of service to Him?  That’s how it all started for me.  Marsha Hunt, one of my Sunday school teachers, got involved in Midtown Ministries and kept imploring our class to get involved.  I toyed with the Carol and Ekanimidea (God’s knocking) and decided to check it out.  My thought process was, “do I want to commit every Thursday evening?  Do I want to give up an evening of MY time to work with children?”  I’ve never thought of myself as a children’s worker; always thought I’d like to work with seniors.  Well, don’t ask God to show you where He wants you to serve if you aren’t ready to answer His call.

I prayed before I went and my first Thursday at the mission was an eye opening event. The only people I knew there was Marsha and Pat Martin but when I walked in I felt God’s love.  I sat on the floor with some of the kids during our song segment and put my arms around some of them. They in turn loved me back.  Well needless to say I was hooked.  I felt God’s great love, His presence and the gift He gave me of loving His children.  Wow, it was incredible.

To make a long story short, I have been teaching (I’m not a teacher) 5th grade students for almost two years now.  My first class of babies (they probable wouldn’t appreciate me calling them babies) are like my own grandchildren.  We developed a bond that won’t be broken.  They still come in on Thursday evenings and give me hugs even though they are in another class.  I tell people Mark and I have 6 grandchildren in Easley, SC, 6 in Charlotte and 12 in Rock Hill... Kids for Jesus Plays major role.

Ronnie Aiten, Pastor of Kids for Jesus and children's pastor at Temple Baptist Church  in Rock Hill works full time looking for ways to bring children to church. His bus ministry is responsible for 90% of the attendance, and no one loves the children more than Mr. Ronnie. His wild wigs are becoming famous and always manage to entertain the children and adults.

Chase Catledge Brings Midtown to Eastside

"When I heard you speak about this ministry at the pastor's luncheon, I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of it," Chase explained to Dave Roth, Pastor of Midtown. Chase went to work and brought our need for space to the deacon board at Eastside Baptist and, within a few weeks, had received permission for Midtown to use the church's facility.

Chase is the Youth Pastor at Eastside and is just as excited about our new relationship as the rest of us are. He has graciously allowed our youth to use his youth room at the church along with all of the other facilities.

You or your church can be involved in reaching these children for Jesus Christ!

At the right is a map to Eastside Baptist Church where we meet each Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. We are growing rapidly and are always in need of more Christian adults to organize their church to provide meals for the children,  to come teach a class, serve tables, lead with the games, or spend time with a child or youth who needs someone to talk to.

Many of the kids to whom we minister come from single parent homes and live in severe poverty. There is always a need to be filled and not enough resources.
